The hourglass analogy nails the structural problem here. I worked adjacent to ag logistics in 2019 and watched firsthand how the ABCD cartel functioned as a single point of failure, yet nobody wanted to discuss diversification because margins were too thin. The JIT model fails catastrophically when volatility spikes, which we're seeing more often. Treating redundancy as waste rather than insurance is exactly the premature optimization trap tht's gona bite us hard.
